My first car Hyundai i10 Sportz… i simply love it.

This is my first car and a choice of my wife specially the color (Red).

–> The story begins here: It was July 2008 and our marriage date was finalized to 29th Nov 2008. Till that time I was riding my bike and for my fiance I thought to give her a special gift on our marriage. Our 1st car had to be special so we both surveyed a lot. We visited a lot of show rooms and tested lot of cars, different brands and models. Maturi 800, Alto, Zen, Wagon-R, Santro, Getz, Palio, etc were all passé… and I was thinking of a new and fresh model in mind.

My budget was 4 to 4.5 Lacs. We were looking for a small family car in high segment, so we had following choices on latest models: Santro, i10, Swift, Zen-Estilo, Chevrolet UVA and Chevrolet Spark.

Santro was old and they discontinued the hi-end version to increase the sale of i10. I was seeing lots of i10s rolling on the roads with large praying-mantis eyed front lights. Don’t know but I disliked it initially, but my wife and cousins liked it from the beginning.

First we went to Capital Hyundai showroom (Sec-63, NOIDA, UP) and collected all the information. Then we went to Nimbus Hyundai showroom (Sec-2, NOIDA, UP), they strictly told us that they are not going to give any discount and any free accessories. The dealer was very rude, showroom was very small and they had maintenance facility at other location.

Then again we went back to Capital Hyundai dealer. They were very polite, friendly and the showroom was very clean and cool. They handover me the car brochure and told me about the versions, features and specs of Era, Magna, Sportz and Asta models.

– Era was basic with 1.1 L engine with less features, no power windows, no defogger, etc.

– Magna 1.2 L engine with no defogger, no tail LED light, no cd-player, etc.

– Sportz has 1.2 L new kappa engine which is more refined and more efficient + feature rich.

– Asta has some extra features that I don’t think I’ll use here in india like sun-roof, ABS and Air bags + extra cost.
… we both selected the Sportz model.

After lot of negotiations and several meetings they quoted us a decent price and some free accessories (thanks to my cousin brother for negotiating a lot). It was Diwali time so they were not giving too much discounts. Finally the car was at home on 3rd Nov 2008.

– Power, 80 BHP @ 6000 Max RPM
– Peak Torque, 114 Nm @ 4000 Max RPM

Pros: Smoth Gear shift, Good Suspension, More interior space, more power, good mileage
Cons: N/A

–> Update (as of 07-Sept-2009):
Car has done ~11000 kms and is running smoother and smoother.
Current Fuel Average:- City: 13~14kmpl / Highway: ~18kmpl (with AC)
The fog light caps on the bumper (both sides) are very delicate. I’ve lost both of them and have also seen missing in many other people’s car.
The water jet for wiping the windshield is not powerful. I’ve seen in other cars the water jet is strong and sometimes reaches up to the roof.

–> Update (as of 10-feb-2011):
Car has done ~25000 kms and I’m loving it.
Car kit-stereo got kaput, so got it replaced within warranty at no extra cost (worth 9k).
Electronic Power Steering (EPS) got failed, so got the module replaced within warranty at no extra cost (worth 22k).

–> Update (as of 10-feb-2015):
Car has done ~37000 kms and is still running smoother with same power like day-1.
Engine Control Module (ECM) got failed, but warranty was over. New module cost was 35k, so got it repaired in 6k, running fine for the last 1 year.

–> Update (as of 05-jun-2016):
Car has done ~47000 kms and still it is full of power.
Replaced all 4 tyres with the same MRF brand that I got as stock-tyres initially. Cost 2.9k INR each including fitting, wheel balancing/alignment extra.
People suggested to go with Bridgestone or Michelin as they have good grip and are softer on Indian roads. But I didn’t felt any issue with my stock-MRF tyres, even cutting corners at high speed, so went with MRF only. The other two brand tyres were also expensive too (~4k to 4.5k)
